Mam kindly brought me back a few polishes from Florida as she is well aware of my nail polish obsession. This polish is part of the Essie Spring 2014 collection and is called Romper Room. I had gone years without trying Essie despite it being a much loved brand. I eventually bought one last year but I wasn’t totally won over by it. This polish might have just converted me over though. I love a good opaque pink but have struggled to find one I really love, I think this might just be my new favourite polish. It goes on streak free in about 3 coats. I’m not the best with creamy opaque formulas but I think I did pretty well with this. What do you think?
I really am like a bit of a magpie when it comes to my nail polishes, anything that is sparkly is a winner in my book. I spoke about my Models Own haul recently here and as part of it I bought two of the Artstix polishes. These are cool polish duos with colour on one end and a bit of sparkle on the other. It’s basically nail art for dummies and I am definitely a dummy with nail art. Below is the pretty combo Boogie Dream, you can buy these from Boots for €9.15.
Although the weather might not agree it’s technically springtime and as always the pastel colours tend to make a return for spring. I’m not big on pastel clothes, they tend to wash me out but I’m happy to wear any colour on my nails. I spied this lovely baby blue on the NYC counter and sure for €1.89, where would you be going! This is lasting really well for such a cheap polish it’s been two days and only one minor chip. I also bought a minty green pastel which I’m looking forward to trying. If pastels are your thing there are some lovely ones in the range so check them out!
This weeks nail of the week is courtesy of Irish new kid on the block Wet n Wild! Wet n Wild is a popular budget makeup brand from the US that has recently landed in a Dunnes Stores near you. They do a fab range of high quality but pocket friendly beauty bits. I picked up the Megalast nail polish in Bite the Bullet because I thought it was a pretty good match to the Pantone Colour of the Year Radiant Orchid. What do you think? The Megalast polishes cost just €2.99 – bargain and it’s wearing really well.
I was dying to get my hands on this polish for ages after I fell in love with the swatches I saw online. Flip Flop Fantasy is one of China Glazes best sellers so I ordered it before Christmas for my holiday. I was raging because the polish took ages to arrive and I didn’t get it until I was back from my hols. I mainly bought this to go on my toes but fear not I won’t treat you to a picture of my feet, I’m showcasing it on my fingers. I have tried it on my toes though and it’s a really fab shade for feet that will look great in the summer.
This shade is a bright neon coral cream. My one major gripe about this polish is it’s formula. I’m not an expert at painting nails but I’d say I know what I’m doing and I found this really hard to work with. It goes on quite stripy and if you don’t have enough polish on the brush to do a nail in one go, you will mess it up. The colour looks fab from a distance but you don’t want to get up too close as you can see from my photo! I still really like it for my toes though, nobody will be up close enough to notice streaks and if they are it’s likely I’ll kick them. You can get China Glaze polishes for around €8 online. Have you tried this? Could you get it to go on properly?!
You’re going to kill me but I’m writing about a polish you can’t get any more because Chanel has discontinued it! I had to write about it because I realised it’s the oldest nail polish I have. My friends bought me this for my birthday back in 2008! It’s as good as new though and still goes on perfectly. Kaleidoscope is a gold/pewter shade with a bit of a shimmer finish. I love it for a classy night time look. I didn’t realise how much of a collectors item the Chanel polishes are, if you REALLY want this you can buy it on eBay for about €100!! Crazy, I like it but not that much! If you like this kind of shade Max Factor Angel Nails isn’t a million miles off it but it leans more silver. What do you think?
It’s baaaack! I’ve really missed my Nail of the Week routine what with holidays and the Christmas and all I had to take a break but it’s back with a bang for 2014.
Recently I’ve developed an obsession with getting a good holographic nail polish. I did a LOT of research and had my heart set on the discontinued China Glaze OMG polish. You can buy it for the bargain price of $50 on ebay, so no way jose. Gosh Holographic Hero was another polish that got mentioned so I hunted it down and I love it! It took about three coats to get this effect. It’s so pretty but I think I’d like it to be even more holographic!
Just before Christmas I ordered a holographic glitter from Precious Polish. Precious Polish is an independent nail polish brand set up by fellow beauty blogger Anita. She does a fab range of polishes and being a bblogger she knows what makes a good one. She also does custom polishes for bargain prices – you can find out more here. I’ve added the Holo Silver glitter polish I ordered from Anita as an accent nail here. I love this look, it really catches the eye! What do you think?
For the past few years our staff christmas party had involved some vert tacky Christmas jumpers! I decided to up the game this year and have some cheesy christmassy nails for the party. I created this look using masking tape to create the stripes and the tree. The polishes I used included some from a set of amazing glitters I have from The New Black called The Party Rock set. I used the green, red, gold, white and silver glitter in this look. I have since fallen in love with their polishes. The silver glitter one I used in this look was amazing. What do you think??
Another Christmassy Nail of the Week! I am gradually branching out with my nail art and trying to so something a bit more complex than dots. I thought how hard can a snowman be, turns out it’s not as straightforward as you might think. I painted the snowman on with the brush and added the details with the nail art pen. The orange polish is by NYC in Spring Street and the white China Glaze polish is Dandy Lyin Around (?). It’s definitely not perfect but it’s a start! What do you think?
All the December Nails of the Week will have a bit of a festive feel and you can’t beat classic reds for Christmas! For this look I used a combination of China Glaze Red Satin and OPIs Liquid Sand in Magazine Cover Mouse (as in Minnie Mouse, this makes me love it more!). I really didn’t think I would get along with the OPI Liquid Sand polishes but I actually think they’re lovely. They give such an unusual finish, they can really complement a regular polish.
