Well the temperature has gone over fifteen degrees in Ireland so summer has officially arrived! People go from complaining about the rain to complaining about the heat. I have skin with a touch of rosacea and a fair bit of redness so my skin doesn’t react too well to the heat. When I go on holidays I often get a rash from the sun on my face. So when the heat hits I am on mission to cool down my skin. Here is my current skin cooling routine.
Guinot Lait Hydra Fraicheur Refreshing Cleansing Milk (€20) – this stuff is just brilliant. Guinot is a long established French brand but you don’t hear too much of it, I’m not sure why as this cleanser is excellent quality. It has an instant milky cooling effect when you apply it to your skin and it causes no irritation at all. I wash this off with a face cloth soaked in cool water. I can see the redness calm in my skin after using this.
No7 Soft and Soothed Toner – I swipe my face with a cotton pad of this toner. It’s very mild and causes no irritation to my skin. I use it just to remove any last traces of cleanser and perk up my skin. This costs €10 from Boots but I always try to buy it with a money off No7 voucher so it usually only costs a few euro.
La Roche Posay/Avene Face Mists – I know it’s just water in a can but there is nothing more cooling than spritzing your face with water. I have the La Roche Posay one at home and the Avene one on my desk in work. I give my face a quick spritz of this before I apply the rest of my products. The 50ml La Roche Posay spray is €4.99.
La Roche Posay Hydraphase Eye Cream (€17.50) – I think a lot of people suffer from dehydration around the eyes and start to mistake dried out skin for wrinkles. This eye cream is nice and cooling but also helps hydrate the eye area. It also contains no ingredients that would irritate sensitive eyes. I just pat this around my eyes morning and evening.
Hydraluron Serum – This serum is great for helping skin to retain moisture but it’s gel consistency also means it has a cooling effect on the skin. I apply a light layer of this before my moisturiser. You can read my full review of it here.
Nuxe Fraiche Light Moisturiser (€29) – I’m in love with all things Nuxe at the moment. I had been using the Fraiche serum which I loved and will have a full review of soon but I also got a mini sample of the moisturiser. It’s a very light moisturiser with cooling ingredients such as plant milks and Aloe Vera.
Soap and Glory Sunshield Superfluid SPF50 – Well of course on sunny days you cannot forget the SPF! I recently got an excellent tip off on this SPF from Pink Elephant Blogging. This is a really light SPF 50 which does not clog or irritate my skin at all. I apply this to my face, neck, chest and hands. I also try not to sit directly in the sun for too long, it’s just not worth it to me!
As well as following my cooling skin routine I also try to drink as much water as I can. I also learned to avoid certain foods that generate heat in the body and try not drink too much alcohol (I did say try!).
Do you have any skincare products that you really love for summer?
