I do like Palmers skincare and have been a long-time fan of their daily tanner. Recently I’ve been having problems with the skin on my body. My legs have been really dry and I tend to get small red bumps from using an epilator the odd time on my legs. I also have the dreaded little bumps on the back of my arms scientifically known as Keratosis Pilaris (KP). I was having a bit of a think about it and realised that the fruit and lactic acids do a great job at keeping my face exfoliated and clear so surely there must be similar formulas for body creams.
I did my research and I came across a few solutions some more pricey than others but I decided I’d start with a budget product so I chose Palmers Anti-Aging Smoothing Lotion with AHA/BHA. It kind of irks me when Anti-Ageing is thrown into product names, it’s not a phrase I love! Anyway I will get over that. Because this lotion is designed to smooth skin primarily it is not exactly chemical free. Below is the full list of ingredients but the main ingredients it contains are lactic and salicylic acid to exfoliate as well as various fruit acids. There is also cocoa butter for moisturising. This also contains mineral oil which is a controversial ingredient in cosmetics (see Caroline Hirons for reasoning) but I thought I would give it a try and see how my skin reacted.
The lotion is quite liquid and doesn’t feel massively nourishing but that’s not its main aim. I saw a few people online complain about the smell but I don’t really get it as I think it smells fruity and I actually like it. It turns out my skin reacts very well to all of the exfoliating chemicals. When I say my skin has never been smoother it is no word of a lie. I keep rubbing the backs of my arms like a proper weirdo to check how smooth they are. It’s also done a great job at smoothing the red bumps I sometimes get from epilating which is great for baring my legs in the summer.
This may not be considered very skin friendly with its ingredients and maybe if you have very sensitive skin this might cause irritation but I love it. My plan is to alternate this with a regular more nourishing moisturiser for the summer. Also it only costs €5.49 so won’t break the bank.
