I love me a bitta Models Own, I have a small but blossoming collection of their polishes. They’re a great go to for a wide variety of nail colours and finishes. They recently celebrated getting 250,000 likes on their Facebook page by having a half-price sale on all polishes. I of course jumped on the bandwagon early in the morning when the sale launched. The site crashed a few times with the demand but I needn’t have fretted as there was a lot of stock.
Below is my little haul I got, including two of the Artstix dual polishes and two of the new HyperGel polishes. They were presented in the lovely box complete with Models Own tissue paper, very pretty. Also I got mine delivered through Parcel Motel and delivery was very speedy altogether. I think I ordered Wednesday and had them the Friday.
I was very keen to try the new HyperGel polishes. They promise a gel like finish without all the Shellac palaver. I bought the nude shade Naked Glow and Turquoise Gloss. I love the way they put the shade on the top of the bottle, I really wish all brands did this as I store all my polishes in drawers so it makes them really easy to find.
Anyway on to the polishes themselves. I first tried the neutral shade Naked Glow below and I have to say the formula didn’t really win me over. The polish is quite thick to start with and I found it difficult to get an even finish with the nude shade. I also felt it went tacky very quickly so you have to be fast with it. I wasn’t happy with how the neutral shade looked but the turquoise shade was much better.
The Turquoise Gloss shade went on in nearly one coat and looked much more even. On the more positive side the finish on both shades is very shiny and does look like your gel nails would look. I didn’t find that these lasted much longer than a normal polish though. I know Makeup Monster had similar feelings about the Nails Inc Gel offerings here. I’m just not sure if gel polishes lead people to believe they will last longer when they’re just as durable as a regular polish.
Overall I have mixed feelings about the HyperGel. I think I’d prefer to use the normal Models Own polishes with a really good gel look top coat (I love the Essence one). I think it would look just as good and last as long. I’ll let you know when I try my other sale polishes though! You can buy the HyperGel polishes from the Models Own website for £5.
