New to Ireland – Physicians Formula!

Physicians FormulaI was lucky to be invited along to a launch last night for American makeup brand Physicians Formula. It’s great to see new brands landing on Irish shores as it provides a bit of excitement for us beauty junkies. Physicians Formula has been around since 1937 and was invented by Dr Robert Crandall who was looking for cosmetics suitable for his wife’s sensitive skin. All of the products are designed to be hypoallergenic and free from 100 known skin irritants. Not only are the products skin friendly, they are also very pretty, let’s take a look at some of the range…

The Physicians Formula collection is big on powder formulas and eye products. There are ten different bronzing powders across the range with different finishes. How pretty is this Season to Season bronzer? it really reminds me of the very high end Guerlain bronzers. The packaging of all the products is just so luxurious. Most of the powders come with a brush in the bottom of the compact which is really handy for when you’re topping up on the go. The Season to Season Bronzer costs €19.90 and most of the bronzers in the range are around this price.

There is a quirky PH range which adapts colour to the PH on your skin.  I saw with my own eyes when five of us bloggers tested the same blush, it came up a slightly different shade on each person. The PH blushes have cool little lights in the mirror as well, you can pick one up for €16.90. There’s also a PH lip gloss below with a light in the wand and a mirror on the case (€13.90).

Another product that made me smile is the Happy Booster™ Glow & Mood Boosting Blush. This is the one product that was on my radar from Physicians Formula before I went to the launch. It’s such a pretty blush and is ‘Infused with our Happy Boost Blend, featuring Happy Skin and Euphoryl, natural plant extracts which have been shown to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of Endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress.’ Now I’m not sure it can make me happier but it is a very pretty blusher.

There is a huge range of eyeliners in the collection with Kajals, shimmer pens and gel eyeliners. I’m intrigued by the Lash-Boosting Serum and Eyeliner (€15.90) which claims to help boost the condition of your lashes. I will road test it and let you know how I get on! They also include shadow liners in their Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow and Liner (€15.90) below. This is a very pretty and delicate looking eye palette.

There is a small range of liquid bases and concealers in the collection. I do like the look of the – wait for it –  Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Dark Circle Corrector + Concealer -mouthful!! (€16.90) as it contains a yellow to neutralise dark circles and a concealer shade to cover, I swatched this on my hand and was pretty impressed with the formula.

There are lots of products I missed and I could keep talking about this range forever but I better wrap up! My first impressions of Physicians Formula is a range of high quality skin friendly products in very pretty packaging. It’s a great choice if you have skin allergies or concerns but still want your makeup to feel fun and unique. Everything in the range is priced between €10 – €20 and will be available in pharmacies nationwide from 1 June. I’ll keep you posted when I get the stockists.

Well, what do you think? Anything going on to your wishlis?

Update: Stockists list is below! Only one in Dublin unfortunately.

I definitely want that Happy Booster and to try one of the mascaras, I always find no matter how much I spend they either clump or flake or even worse rip my eyelashes out on makeup removal :(. I had no idea about this brand so thank you & look forward to your reviews!

I literally want everything in this blog post!! I originally wanted the happy booster blush, now I’ve had to add the rest of these to the list too! Love the look of that seasonal bronzer- what a brilliant idea!!

Do you think it’s worth the mid-range price? It struck me as more of a budget brand when I first saw pictures of their products. Is it worth it?

I know what you mean Claire. I think the formulas look good quality and a lot of work seems to go into making them suitable for sensitive skin. Couple that with the quality of packaging and uniqueness of a lot of the products I feel the price is justified. I’ve yet to wear any of the products so will have to give them a proper trial run and report back :-)
