I have had this product absolutely ages so I’m not sure why I haven’t reviewed it sooner. It might have to do with my large skincare stash, I forget what I own! I first discovered this when I had a Dermalogica facial many moons ago and the therapist recommended it as a good exfoliator for my sensitive skin.
For years I had been exfoliating my skin with scrubs not realising the damage I was doing to my dehydrated, sensitive and rosacea prone skin. I’ve only learned in recent years that scrubs are not the best choice for my skin type. If you have my kind of skin you have to be careful not to over exoliate and use anything too rough it will only aggravate any skin problems.
The Daily Microfoliant is quite unusual, its a rice based powder that you mix with water to form a kind of paste. There is a slight grittiness to the paste but it doesn’t feel too scrub like on the skin. It contains the rice base and also extracts of Licorice, Ginko Bilboa and Tea Tree to soothe and brighten skin. I also noticed it contains Papain which is a papaya enzyme which is a great gentle exfoliator.
I pour about half a teaspoon of the powder in the centre of my palm and add about a teaspoon of water and that’s enough to clean my whole face. I rub the mixture between my two palms and then gently rub over my face. I then just rinse it off. I notice a real smooth squeaky clean feeling after using this. My skin feels very smooth and looks perky. Just a tip on this – I wouldn’t recommend storing this in your bathroom as the steam from the shower can get into the powder and solidify it. Keep it somewhere dry.
Although this is called Daily Microfoliant, I really wouldn’t recommend using it daily especially if you have dehydrated skin like me. My skin went haywire once and I realised it was because I was using this too much and it made my skin super oily but tight at the same time. I find twice a week is plenty to keep my skin smooth and bright.
This is good value as well because it lasts for ages. You get 75 grams worth of product in this but you only need to use a tiny bit each time. You can get this for about €45 online, I think in salons it can be about €50. But I think I have had mine a year or so now and it’s still going strong. Have you tried this? Or is there anything you love from Dermalogica?
