Well I have a few beauty missions in my life and one of them is to find a non-uv gel nail polish that lasts more than two days on my nails. I really admire people who can get 4/5 days out of nail polish, I’m lucky if I can escape the day without a chip. I have tried long wearing gel polishes from the likes of CND Vinylux but didn’t get incredibly long wearing results. I had wanted to try the Sally Hansen one but heard mixed reports so I decided not to face disappointment again.
I was recently browsing instagram and saw a post about these new Barry M Sunset polishes which claim to cure under daylight for a hard wearing long lasting finish. It’s a similar claim to the CND Vinylux polish and I was drawn in by these as I really like Barry M polishes. Similar to other brands you have a colour and a top coat. You’re supposed to apply two thin coats of the colour and finish with a thin layer of the top coat. The polish is then supposed to harden when exposed to daylight. It was very sunny when I had applied this so I felt I got maximum help from the claims.
When I applied this I really liked the finish. It is quite gel like and the look is super shiny. The coral colour Peach for the Stars is beautiful and perfect for summery looking nails. Unfortunately that’s where the praise ends! I had one glorious chip free day with this polish and was raising my eyebrows thinking ‘I’ve finally found the one.’ but on the second day the polish had started to lift around the edges on one or two nails and small chips had appeared on the corners of others. By day three it was really in ‘I have to remove this’ condition.
Now granted I don’t get great wear out of polish anyway but I have regular polishes that give me the same longevity as this. I do like the glossy finish and the colour range is lovely but I’m just not sure they’re worth the moolah. The polishes and top coat cost €7.50 each but I think I got mine in a buy one get one half price.
